Interstitial Lung Disease

Interstitial lung disease encompasses a diverse range of lung disorders, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, amongst others. These conditions are all characterized by inflammation and scarring of the lung tissue, which impairs the lungs' ability to function properly. Common symptoms of the disease include  shortness of breath, a dry cough, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss. Diagnosis of ILD typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, lung function tests, imaging studies (such as chest X-rays and high-resolution CT scans), and sometimes lung biopsies.
